The United States economy added 156,000 new jobs in the month of September and the national unemployment rate held steady at 5 percent, according to data released Friday by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. Professional and business services employment rose by 67,000 in September and has risen by 582,000 total during 2016. September job gains occurred in management and technical consulting services (16,000-plus), and employment continued to trend up in administrative and support services (35,000-plus).
