Superheroes on Parade Fill Downtown
This weekend, Oct. 8 and 9, Sarasota’s downtown is really going to the dogs. The Superheroes dogs, that is.
For weeks, 52 colorful, larger-than-life sculptures of dogs, created by local artists and sponsored by local businesses and individuals, have been on display in offices, shops and restaurants all over Sarasota and Manatee counties as part of a campaign to benefit Southeastern Guide Dogs, which provides guide dogs and service dogs for those who need them.
Now all of the sculptures will be on display along South Palm Avenue (from Main Street west to McAnsh Square) for their grand final appearance in Superheroes on Parade. That includes the proud pups that won the recent “People’s Choice” Awards. Bearing fitting names like Titan, Boy Wonder, Pathfinder and Co-Pilot, the dogs come in a variety of colors and styles, but their capes identify them as the superheroes they are.
Take a stroll downtown this weekend and admire the artwork. And to learn more about the work Southeastern Guide Dogs has been doing to transform lives for more than 30 years, go to guidedogs.org.
