Shack rum punch axyyaa

This week: The Shack Rum Punch at Cortez's 45-year-old Seafood Shack

The drink: Four different rum flavors (pineapple, mango, coconut and banana) plus unspecified "tropical fruit juices." Tastes like bubble gum. Which, to be fair, is I think exactly what people are looking for in their tropical beverage.

The bar: Opened in 1971, the Shack is a historic spot but still a well-maintained modern space, with brick floors, wooden furnishings and plenty of nautical doodads to set the waterfront scene. Spacious dining room with a big bar in the back, plus excellent deck seating along the Intracoastal outside.

Food: Gulf seafood offerings come fresh-off-the-boat from fisherman at the adjoining marina.

Other notable potables: Tropical drinkers should check out the piña colada, with housemade mix, shredded coconut and a dark rum floater. (We can also confirm that they mix a good Manhattan.)
