The brilliant-blue roof of Victor Lundy’s pagoda-style building first caught illustrator John Pirman’s eye. “It’s as vivid today as when the tiles were installed in 1956,” he says. Lundy was one of the founding fathers of the Sarasota School of Architecture; and the building, which is owned by the city, boasts his signature sweeping, curved roofline. The Sarasota Garden Club’s historic Japanese lantern, recently excavated from the bottom of the nearby pond and lovingly restored, provides an appropriate echo and anchor for this important structure.
