To support the American Cancer Society, Keeton’s Office & Art Supply is holding an office products expo from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14 at its headquarters, 817 Manatee Ave. W. in Bradenton. The expo’s theme is Breast Cancer Awareness, and Keeton’s is taking raffle donations for the American Cancer Society’s walk, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Sarasota/Manatee, in which the company will participate this month.
International circus legend Dolly Jacobs has been chosen by the National Endowment for the Arts to receive a National Heritage Fellowship Award, marking the first time a circus performer has ever received this national recognition. She is one of nine artists being honored this year. At 8 p.m. tonight, you can watch a live performance by Jacobs' at the Washington D.C. awards ceremony online at arts.gov.
All Faiths Food Bank received a $59,643 award through the Edward Henry Lyman Charitable Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. The funds will be used for the 11-truck fleet maintenance, repair and general costs associated with the operation of collecting and distributing more than seven million pounds of food annually. Sunnyside Chapel, which serves the Sunnyside Village retirement community and assisted living facility, also donated $8,800 to help feed families in need.
The Sarasota Bay Estuary Program Bay Guardian volunteers will plant native Florida plants at Grassy Point Preserve in Holmes Beach on Saturday, Oct. 10. SBEP project partners include Around the Bend Nature Tours, City of Holmes Beach, Manatee County Department of Parks and Natural Resources and Chiles’ Restaurant Group. Children’s Healthy Pantry, a local nonprofit dedicated to feeding underserved children, invites the public to its second annual Taste of Jazz fundraiser from 7-9 p.m. next Friday, Oct. 9 at the Sarasota Orchestra. Ernest Kretzmer donated $500,000 to Florida Studio Theatre to assist with The Rosemary Artist Housing Project. In its completion, there will be five new townhouses on Cohen Way in Sarasota’s Rosemary District to house visiting artists and interns.
