Savored--and You Still Can!

By Megan McDonald June 15, 2011

My dream lunch: pan-seared barrumundi.

Great deal at Derek’s Culinary Casual--the Savor Sarasota menu also offers a three-course lunch for just $15. My fantasy lunch come true included pan-seared barramundi with potato gnocchi, sweet grape tomatoes, house-made bacon and aged sherry vinaigrette. Perfect way to start a meal. Hubby tucked into the daily gumbo with pork, chicken and andouille.

Derek's homemade banana pudding was a hit.

We both favored and savored the pulled pork and grouper taco duo with basil fried rice, followed by Derek’s homemade banana pudding with mini doughnuts and chocolate bread pudding. (Did I mention all this for only $15 at lunch?!). Several other restaurants, like the Ritz's Vernona, Mattison’s 41, Libby’s, Mozaic and Derek’s will be offering their Savor Sarasota menu until the end of the month.

SAVOR SUNDAYS, TOO

Since husband asked for a roast beef dinner at home this Sunday for Father’s Day, I hit a win/ win for the rest of the summer. We should all save every Sunday in July and August for the prime rib dinner at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, a three-course meal featuring a succulent prime rib, salad, side and dessert for only $29.95 per person. You can’t even make that at home for that price!

If you do need some suggestions for dad dining, Lee Roy Selmon’s is offering a $10 gift card to Dad to use for another visit when you bring him in on Father’s Day. And Nancy’s BBQ is always a good choice, as is a burger at New Pass Grill and Bait Shop or breakfast at Word of Mouth.

Finally, a farewell to Cosimo’s Too in Sarasota Square Mall. That area just never picked up steam. Good news, though: The original Cosimo’s in Southgate continues to go strong and still has the best darn Quattro Fromaggio pizza I have ever had!
