PINCfest

Jan. 20-22

The three-day outdoor visual and performing arts festival takes off this week, with free offerings including live mural painting exhibitions and music, along with some ticketed events like a bike ride and a dinner. Taking place in the Rosemary Art & Design District, it’s all about creativity, and it’s delivered by DreamLarge, the Ringling College of Art and Design, and PINC—People, Ideas, Nature, Creativity.  Asolo Rep: Grand Horizons

Jan. 21-April 1

Asolo Rep continues its 2022 rotating rep season with this Bess Wohl comedy about a couple, married 50 years, whose relationship hits the skids just as they move into their new Florida retirement home. Jersey Boys

Jan. 25 and 26

The ever-popular Broadway musical telling the true story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and their rise to fame returns to the Van Wezel stage for three performances. Fans of falsetto, prime your ears. Tickets by calling (941) 263-6799 or at vanwezel.org.

Tango Fire

Jan. 24

Revolution: The Music of the Beatles

Jan. 21 and 22

The Sarasota Orchestra Pops series turns us on with the beloved songs of those four lads from Liverpool, including such hits as “Get Back,” “Yesterday,” “Penny Lane” and “Twist and Shout.” At 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Van Wezel. Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe: Ruby

Jan. 26-Feb. 27

Delayed more than once by Covid issues, this world premiere musical by WBTT artistic director Nate Jacobs and his brother Michael is finally set to open (cross your fingers!) Wednesday. It tells the true story of a Black woman who killed a white doctor in Live Oak, Florida, and the aftermath of her trial and its media coverage. Sarasota Contemporary Dance: Dance Makers

Jan. 24-30

The company’s next performances present new, imaginative dance pieces created by Dazaun Soleyn, Jennifer Nugent and Christal Brown, and will also revive Kinda Cagey, a grand piano and dancer duet. Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill

The late great Billie Holiday is recalled in this show set toward the very end of her career, in 1959, in a seedy bar in South Philly. Chaplin, the Musical

“The Little Tramp” of silent film days, whose career ended up spanning decades, is remembered in this show at the Manatee Performing Arts Center. Hermitage Sunsets @ Selby Gardens
