Arts Day LIVE

Sept. 18

Celebrate Sarasota’s vibrant arts community with this free event on St. Armands Circle. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., you can expect live performances from Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe, the Chamber Orchestra of Sarasota, the Jazz Club of Sarasota and more, along with artist popups and live painting sessions in the Circle Park. Aladdin the Ballet

Sept. 19

The Russian Ballet, Inc. tells the magical tale of Aladdin and his lamp, in performances featuring international guest dancers at the Sarasota Opera House, at 1 and 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets, sarasotaopera.org or (941) 328-1300.

Flora and Florida

Sept. 18-Oct. 15

The newly opened Arts Advocates Gallery, located in the Crossings at Siesta Mall at 3501 S. Tamiami Trail, presents a special member show featuring the works of Donna Janee Karambelas, who works in acrylics to create colorful florals and tropical pieces. Hours for the exhibit are 2 to 5 p.m. each Saturday, and you can also take in the group’s Sarasota Colony Artists exhibit at the same time. For more info, visit artsadvocates.org.

Asolo Rep Costume Sale

Sept. 17 and 18

Get medieval—or Renaissance, or contemporary, or 1930s and ’40s—with a purchase or two from the extensive collection of Asolo Rep’s professionally designed costumes. You can feel like a star and help support the theater at the same time. The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Koski Production Center, 1009 Tallevast Road, and masks are required. Market Renkl at Bookstore 1Sarasota

New York Times opinion writer Margaret Renkl talks about her latest book, Graceland, At Last: Notes on Hope and Heartache from the South, at 7 p.m. Thursday. It’s part of the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance Reader Meet Writer Author Series; reservations are required for the Zoom link, and there is an optional cost of $7 to help defray the cost to the bookstore.
