According to Sarasota Memorial Hospital's daily patient census, the hospital is currently caring for 201 Covid-positive patients—the highest since the pandemic began in March 2020. Eighty-nine percent of those 201 patients are unvaccinated and 44 are in the ICU. The hospital's seven-day positivity rate is 16.9 percent, up from 13.8 percent last week.

Due to the influx of patients, the hospital is currently limiting non-urgent, eletive surgical procedures that require longer inpatient hospital stays. A modified visitor policy has also been put back in place.

Sarasota County is currently averaging 275 new Covid-19 cases per day, while Manatee County is averaging 285 new cases per day. Florida's daily case average is 27,341.

In response to surging cases, free walk-up testing is available at the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex and the former Sarasota Kennel Club from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Appointments are not required at either location. A Covid-19 hotline, run by the Florida Department of Health-Sarasota County, is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at (941) 861-2883.
