Starting Today, Individuals 18 and Older Can Register for the Covid-19 Vaccine

But only people 60 years and older will receive appointments.

Beginning Monday at noon, all Sarasota County individuals who are over the age of 18 will be able to register for the Covid-19 vaccine through Sarasota County’s updated system. However, only individuals who meet the current state guidelines as of March 15 will receive an account number and are eligible for an appointment notification.

The current state guidelines make the following individuals eligible for the vaccine: anyone 60 years of age and older; sworn law enforcement officers, firefighters and K-12 school employees 50 years and older; healthcare personnel with direct patient care duties; and long-term care facility patients and staff.

If you’re not 60 or older, you will not receive an appointment until your age group is eligible, but registering puts you in the queue. If you are registered through the current sign-up (individuals over the age of 65 or frontline healthcare workers), you do not need to register again. However, if you created an account before you became eligible, you will need to sign up through the updated system, and the current account number assigned to your account, which was an automated system feature, will not follow you to your new registration.

Another big change is that people can only register one person. Previously, the system allowed people to register for two.
