The Perlman Music Program

The Perlman Music Program
The 2009 Program runs from December 20 through January 2 with many opportunities to experience the extraordinary talents of the young musicians.

The Perlman Music Program, a unique and internationally acclaimed program welcoming young musicians with rare and special talent into a richly supportive musical community, returns for its 6th Sarasota Winter Residency, December 20 through January 3.  For two intense weeks of rehearsals, lessons, master classes and performances, string musicians ages 12 -20 from around the world will work with faculty led by Itzhak Perlman and comprising some of the most gifted musical talents of our time.  It’s an artistic and personal experience that changes students’ lives forever and it can change yours, too!

The Perlman Music Program has travelled to many parts of the world and has received invitations to establish residencies in other countries, but after four years of experiencing the extraordinary community support and enthusiastic audiences of Sarasota, the Perlman Music Program has established a permanent winter home in Sarasota.  Imagine, Sarasota is where many of these young musicians and future stars experience the first thunderous applause of their careers.

There are many ways to experience and support this exceptional musical program.  The public is invited to attend more than 20 free events held on the USF Sarasota/Manatee campus. A complete schedule of event dates and times is available on the website www.PerlmanMusicProgramSuncoast.org as well as instructions on how you can get your free tickets!  Families with young children are welcome!

New this year, members of The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast receive advanced access to tickets with their membership fee, starting at $50 per person.  Each member receives a lanyard that provides admission to 8 concerts, not including the Celebration Concert.

Tickets for the public events will also be available for pick up by non-members in person in the rotunda of the USF Sarasota/Manatee campus from November 14 through December 14(closed Thanksgiving weekend) on a first come first served basis.  The ticket desk will be open M/W/F: 12pm-3pm (evening hours M: 4:30pm-6:30pm) T/TH/Sat: 10am-1pm. Closed Sundays.

The most exciting event of the season is the Celebration Concert and Dinner held on Saturday, January 2 at the Sarasota Opera House.  Tickets for the 5:30 pm concert starting at only $ 30 per person are available online or by calling the Sarasota Opera Box Office at 941-366-8450 ext 1.

For the full experience, attend the Celebration Concert and Dinner with VIP concert seating and a festive dinner following the concert with the talented young musicians and the illustrious faculty.  Dinner, catered by Michael’s on East, will be served in the Celebration Tent outside of the Opera House.  Reservations for this event can be made now with your donation starting at $ 500 by calling 955-4942.

The newly formed organization, The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast, is grateful for the strong partnership formed with the University of Florida Sarasota/Manatee, as well as the major sponsorship of the Van Wezel Foundation.  The mission of PMP/Suncoast is to provide a permanent home for the PMP Winter Residency.
