LOCAL PUBLICATIONS WIN AWARDS

SARASOTA, FL (Dec. 11, 2007)Sarasota Magazine and Biz941, published by the Gulfshore Media division of Curtco Media, received a total of four awards in the 2007 Florida Awards of Excellence.

 

The Awards of Excellence are presented by the Society of Professional Journalists, North Central Florida Chapter. The SPJ was founded in 1909 to improve and protect journalism, and has 9,000 members nationwide.

 

In the category of  Best Web site, Sarasota Magazine won the coveted first place award.  The categories of  Best Overall Magazine and Best Written Magazine honored Sarasota with second place achievements.

 

Only in its fourth year, Biz941 (formerly Sarasota/Manatee Business magazine) took home the first place award for Best Public Service Coverage for “Going Naked” by Johannes Werner, a piece about uninsured workers in Sarasota and Manatee counties.

 

A ceremony and banquet to honor all award recipients will be held in January.
