Sarasota Magazine’s “Spirit of Sarasota” Photo Contest

You are invited to enter our “Spirit of Sarasota” photo contest. We are looking for photographs that capture the quintessential look, feeling and spirit of our unique city. The subjects of your photographs could include—but are not limited to—nature, landmarks, city scenes, people and recreation. The winning photographs will not only be of good technical quality; they’ll also show your artistry and skill at capturing a defining moment. The entry deadline is Feb. 29.

Three winners will be chosen from the entries, and their pictures, along with those of a number of finalists, will be published in the May 2008 “Best of 2008” issue and on our Web site.

Prizes
The first-place winner will receive an overnight stay at downtown’s hip boutique resort, Hotel Indigo, with a $100 gift certificate for two at Derek’s Restaurant, which has garnered rave reviews since opening in downtown’s Rosemary District.
The second-place winner will receive a $125 gift certificate at Canvas Café, presenting a creative gourmet menu in the relaxed, cottage setting in downtown’s charming Towles Court.
The third-place winner will receive a $100 gift certificate to The Met Day Spa and Salon, which offers a wide array of luxurious beauty and pampering services and treatments.

Rules and Information

Who may enter: Both amateur and professional photographers are welcome to enter. Employees of Sarasota Magazine or any of its affiliated publications are not eligible to enter, but free-lance photographers who have worked for the magazine are eligible. Previously published photos are not eligible.

Deadlines and notification date: The deadline for entries is Feb. 15, 2008.  Winners will be notified by March 15.

Rights to the photos: Contestants retain all rights to their work; however, by entering the contest you grant Sarasota Magazine the right to publish your photograph in the magazine or on our Web site.

How to enter: All photographs must be submitted online at www.sarasotamagazine.com. You will see the contest on the home page. Do not submit photographs by mail. You may submit up to three photographs; please complete a separate online entry form for each.

Technical details: Digital photographs should be taken at the highest resolution possible, and photos must be in a .jpeg or .jpg format. Do not submit any files larger than 1,024k (1 Mb). We may ask finalists to submit a high-resolution file and may disqualify those who cannot submit, upon request, a high-resolution photograph of at least 300 dpi at 5x7 inches or an original photo negative, print or slide.

Release forms: If recognizable people are in your photograph, you will be asked, if you are a winner or finalist, to provide a model release for adults or, if the subject is a minor, a release from the child’s parents.

Questions about the contest: Please e-mail all questions to jasong@sarasotamagazine.com.
