One Great Room
A golfer's dream come true in Prestancia.

Kem Lindsay and Roger Knapp had loved their 5,000-square-foot dream house in Prestancia from afar for years. The avid golfers were struck by its unusual three-pod roof and 4,000 feet of terraced decking every time they reached the third tee. Three years ago, at that very tee, a golfing buddy mentioned the house was for sale. Within 24 hours, the pair had a contract on it.

“You always have a number in mind, and the asking price was lower than I had expected,” Knapp says. “Between the third and 13th holes, I called Kem, she contacted our realtor and we had an appointment to see it.”

Lindsay says she envisioned an all-white setting as a backdrop for expansive views of the golf course and eye-popping contemporary art. She credits designer Ginny Galer of Tradewinds Interiors with bringing that vision to life. “Ginny has a great talent. She hears what you say,” Lindsay says. “After I told her the feeling I wanted, it was as if we had the same taste.”

Architectural interest and practicality meet in a sleek conversation group by Bob Sapan in Dania, for which Galer chose washable, cream-toned Ultrasuede.

Sisal goes glamorous in black with threads of white in an area rug from Carpet Source in Dania. It contrasts the off-white stone floors and textured upholstery fabrics.

Custom coffee table and end table by Joe Stanley of Yellow Coco complete the seating unit and extend the black-and-white theme with ample space for storage.

To salvage an outmoded glass block bar, Galer and Stanley clad the glass with exotic black wood veneer and added a contemporary metal top for contrast and surface interest.

Clean-lined bar stools from Artefacto are black veneer with cream nubuck upholstery to harmonize with the color scheme while creating a separate party conversation area.

Ethereal open-weave sheer curtains by Custom Window Treatments provide a long, lean swath that complements the lofty room and add movement and drama when sliders are open.
