Where are They Now?
Checking out the Dude Ranchers two decades later.

I can't quite put my finger on what made the Dude Ranch so cool. Maybe it was the space itself: the hardwood floors, the windows facing Louie's 76 gas station and the huge screened porch. Or maybe it was because it sat on top of Frank's Barbershop on the North Trail.

I don't know.

So begins my essay on what it was like to be among the young turks who graduated Ringling School of Art & Design in the mid-1980s. You can read more of the story in the March 2003 issue of Sarasota Magazine, available on newsstands now.

If you'd like to see what some of those turks are up to today, here's a list of their Web sites and e-mail addresses. Stop in and say howdy sometime.
